When it comes to all the foods that you have to basically “give up” when it comes to Whole Food Plant Based Eating, which one is the hardest for you? For me…. it was French Fries.

Yup, salty, greasy, crispy, french fries. Those are my “drug of choice” when it comes to having a rough day. And unfortunately, it can be easy to justify….”Oh, but they’re vegan…” Yeah well, just because something is vegan, doesn’t make it healthy!

So, instead of “giving them up”, I just made them WFPB!

These crispy, roasted potato wedges are super easy & oil free! So now when I’m craving some french fries, I just make me these oil-free roasted potato wedges.

You can cut them into any shape your want and even use a fry cutter. But for some reason, I really like making them into wedges. It’s quick, easy, and they stay firmer in the fridge for leftovers.

I like to sprinkle a little Tajin seasoning on them before baking, but you can use any seasoning you like or none at all!

How to bake potato wedges without oil

No oil needed whatsoever for this recipe! I PROMISE you can roast or bake anything you want, without ANY oil and it will turn out great.

All you need are some silicone baking mats. I’ve got several so I can have plenty clean for a batch cooking day. They can be rinsed off or thrown in the dishwasher. You can also use parchment paper, but I don’t like how the paper slides around when trying to flip the potatoes or veggies.

What kind of potatoes to use for french fries?

I prefer to use Yukon Gold Potatoes or yellow potatoes for roasted potato wedges or french fries. They have a naturally buttery flavor and are a little smaller so they come out to be the perfect size for finger foods.

Are potatoes healthy on a whole food plant based diet?

Yes! As long as you don’t smother them with butter, sour cream, bacon, cheese, or fry them in oil! The simple potato is LOADED with vitamins, minerals, fiber, and is naturally fat free. The complex carbohydrates are a good source of energy that will keep you going!

Potatoes do NOT make you fat!

The reason potatoes get a bad name is because of what we do to them! All the added fat from dairy & oil is what makes them unhealthy and fattening.

How you cook them and what you add matters, so keep it oil free & vegan to be WFPB compliant.

In fact, Dr. John McDougall has a book called “The Starch Solution” that is a whole food plant based diet based around starches & whole grains, so if you love potatoes you might want to check it out!
