This is the perfect gorgeous – but crazy easy – side dish for a holiday dinner or even Sunday supper – and it makes the whole house smell amazing.

These onions roast to soft, buttery perfection with just a couple herbs and spices – and are fabulous paired with pork tenderloin, steaks, turkey, chicken thighs, or any hearty main dish you love!

How To Roast Whole Onions

Roasting onions is so easy, you’re going to want to make these decadent, buttery onions for every meal!

If you can use a knife and sprinkle some herbs, you can make this side dish!

The process is relatively straightforward, following these steps:

  • Cut off the top and bottoms to onions
  • Season generously with salt and pepper
  • Top with butter and herbs
  • Bake

Whole Roasted Onions Recipe - delicious buttery whole roasted onions baked to perfection - perfect as a side dish for pork, chicken, & steak!

Ingredients

  • 6 yellow onions
  • 6 tablespoons butter, cut into 6 pats for each onion (use olive oil for vegan)
  • 1 tsp italian herb seasonings
  • 2-3 sprigs fresh rosemary or thyme
  • salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Cut the top and bottom off onion to make a flat surface, leaving peel on.
  3. Place into baking dish, either lined with foil or prepped with nonstick cooking spray.
  4. Sprinkle with salt, pepper, and herbs.
  5. Top with a pat of butter.
  6. Bake 60-90 minutes at 350 degrees, until onions are browned, very soft, and fragrant.
  7. When serving, remove peel.
