There comes a time when you find yourself doing things that you never thought you would do. One of them for me, Frying Pickles. The Food Network told my husband that I should make Fried Pickles.

Does that ever happen to you? Darn Food Network fills my family’s heads with all sorts of ideas. Off to the kitchen. My husband now thinks I am now the best wife in the world which made the 15-20 minutes I just spent in the kitchen worth it!

This recipe is gluten free and delicious! Plus the Tangy dipping sauce for the fried pickles makes them even better in my opinion.

Start with dill pickle chips drained very well, you don’t want them to be too soggy. Go ahead and heat your oil in your pan now to about 350-375 degrees.

Dip the pickle chips in seasoned cornstarch. I did it one at a time for demonstration purposes. It is faster doing several at a time.

Next, you are going to dip them in egg wash. I added a couple dashed of hot sauce to it to spice the fried pickles up a bit.

Finally, toss them in the seasoned cornmeal until they are coated and then in the hot oil for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. No special equipment needed for frying. You can just use a cast iron skillet with some vegetable oil heated to about 350 degrees.

Gluten Free

Making these gluten free is as simple as making one substitution. Make sure you are using a gluten free corn meal. That is it!

Dairy Free

Just simply substitute your favorite dairy free milk. Oat milk has a neutral flavor and is perfect for this.

Tangy Dipping Sauce

The tangy dipping sauce is totally optional, but my family feels like it makes the dish! It is a mayo/ ketchup mix with a few additions that really kick it up a notch. It plays perfectly with the fried pickles.

Tips

  • Dry your pickles! This helps the batter stick to the pickle better.
  • Get a thermometer! If you are frying a thermometer for the oil is your best friend. Have the right temperature oil makes all the difference.
  • A spider. Not that kind, a cooking spider. The right tool to fish those fried pickles out of the hot oil.

Serving

These are best served hot out of the fryer. They don’t really keep and reheat as well, but they are still good. If…and I mean, IF you have leftovers you can store them in the fridge in an airtight container.
